Thank you Nemo for the wonderful help, even apart from this tutorial.

I had to make a little change to get the appearance work properly. I changed this –
{if !$first_letter|in_array:[‘0′,’1′,’2′,’3′,’4′,’5′,’6′,’7′,’8′,’9′]}
{$current_letter = $first_letter|upper}

{/if}
To this –
{if !$first_letter|in_array:[‘0′,’1′,’2′,’3′,’4′,’5′,’6′,’7′,’8′,’9′]}
{$current_letter = $first_letter|upper}
{if !$brand@first}

{/if}

{/if}
This prevented two extra at the beginning of the loop. Hope this helps.
