I put together a short series of services I tried, and which I found extremely performing when using Prestashop. Along with the kick-off price, you will find a list of the top features for each, as well as a brief of their strongest points. Keep in mind that, although all of them support a 1-click installer, it’s always better to install Prestashop manually!
A small thing to notice: you might need to sign up for a specific billing cycle to get the lowest price!

A2 hosting is one of the (if not the) leading Hosting partners for PrestaShop. Their main focus is speed, and that’s definitely what you need when you sell online, since even a second of extra loading time might cost you a potential customer!

They have a range of offers specifically optimized for PrestaShop, making it run significantly faster than its competitors (it’s labeled 20 times faster, and even if I cannot measure it, I can tell it really is faster than most of the ones I tried, with the same price).

You can choose between Lite, Swift and Turbo plans, starting from only $3.92 a month. Even with the most basic plan you get unlimited bandwidth and a free SSD storage (thus, the speed!).
Wherever you are located, A2 has a close-enough server, as they are located in USA, Europe, as well as Asia, and for all plans you can even take advantage of the CloudFlare CDN with no additional cost.

BlueHost – from $3.95 / month

Bluehost is an official hosting partner of Prestashop. This means the Prestashop company itself guarantees it’s stability and performance with the software. I tried it myself, and have to admit it’s incredibly fast! They have their own control panel instead of the default cPanel you can find in most of the hosting environments out there, but you can easily get used to it after a couple of minutes.

Their strongest point is undoubtedly their support tool. They are by far the most reactive service I dealt with. They have a live chat support with a generally short queue, so if you have any kind of trouble you can be sure your issue will be processed (and usually solved) within minutes!

Like  Arvixe they offer a free domain as well, although it will be for the first invoice only. Despite this, even with the basic plan you can host an unlimited number of sites, each with a domain name.

Once more, an extra fee must be (obviously) paid to get an ssl certificate and dedicated IP address. It’s $3.33 per month for the dedicated IP, and $49 per year for a basic SSL. It’s worth noticing that you’ll have a $10,000 warranty/insurance if you sign up for it!

In addition to this, you will get a whopping $200 credit divided between google, facebook and twitter ads. Not bad at all! Please notice that google and facebook credits can be redeemed by US and Canada residents only.

VPS Hosting

As for their VPS services the most noticeable thing is the starting price. You can get a VPS for as low as $14.99 for the first month ($29.99 for the following ones) having these specs:

• 2 CPU cores
• 2Gb RAM
• 30Gb storage
• 1 IP

InMotion Hosting- from $5.99 / Month

InMotion is another official Prestashop hosting partner. I only had a chance to test it slightly, but what I saw was just as great as the previously listed services. They offer data backups completely free of charge, as well as a whopping $275.00 credits for advertisement. Their money back guarantee is also quite impressive: 90 Days; There, if you change your mind even after 3 months, you can get your money back; not bad!

Another feature worth noticing if the FREE no-downtime guarantee on site transfers. I didn’t test it, but sounds quite promising.

On the other hand, the cost of an ssl certificate is quite relevant: $99.99 per year plus a $25 fee for the installation. At the same time, the setup fee remains the same if you already bought a third party certificate that you’d like to add to your inMotion account.

VPS Hosting

Vps hosting starts with a retail price of $39.99 per month, and once more they offer a money-back guarantee, though limited to 30 days compared to the business shared hosting. Specifications of the basic vps:

• 2 IP Addresses
• 1 GB RAM (please noticed it might be cut down to 512 when the whole is not needed)
• Monthly Transfer: 750GB
• Disk Storage: 40GB

The machine’s number of cores is not specified.

Vidahost – from £24.00 / Year

Last but not least, Vidahost. It’s a really great UK-based hosting company, whose shared cloud hosting is blazing fast. Actually, this is the company I am currently hosting my website with! Both my blog (the one you are reading) and Prestashop modules store. I have seen Vidahost’s Starter Package in action with a Prestashop website having more than 3000 products, and running smoothly, without downtimes or hiccups at all.

Their uptime is probably the strongest point of the service. In almost 2 years I only experienced it one single time, and it was fairly short, admittedly!

What about the price? To take advantage of the lowest fee you must sign up for a 2 years cycle, otherwise you will be billed £29.00 for a single year, or £2.99 for the monthly cycle! Please notice that these prices are to be considered VAT excluded.

Breakdown of the starter package:

• Free domain for the first billing cycle
• 2Gb storage
• 25Gb bandwidth
• 6 maximum hosted websites

SSL? Luckily you don’t need to get a dedicated IP for it! Pricing starts from  £39.00 per year.

VPS (Virtual Dedicated)

VPSs at Vidahost are called “Virtual Dedicated”, coming with a starting price of  £34 per month with the following features:

• CPU: 2 Virtual Xeon CPU
• RAM: 768MB
• Disk Space: 20GB
• Data Transfer: 400GB

Once more, keep in mind that prices are to be considered VAT-excluded!
Lastly, if you signup at Vidahost you can get some discounts by using one of the following promotional codes: 10HOSTINGOFF for a 10% discount on the hosting bill; 20SSLOFF for a 20% discount on the purchase of an SSL certificate. Quite self-explanatory!
